Immediate Reconstruction

As soon as the cancerous tissue is removed by the breast cancer surgeon, the plastic surgeon reconstructs the breast either with tissue from another portion of your body or with an implant.

In most cases all of the work is done in one operation, leaving you waking up with reconstructed breasts. This timeframe approach requires coordination of the breast cancer surgery and plastic surgery teams.

You might be a candidate for immediate reconstruction if:

  • You have a small tumour.

  • You have a non-invasive or precancerous diagnosis.

  • You do not have cancer progression to your lymph nodes.

  • You are unlikely to require radiation therapy.
